In our final installment of our tour to Vancouver Island Brewery we catch some live action in the brew house. We were lucky enough to arrive just as a fresh batch of Sea Dog was being brewed.
We are greeted by the sweet smell of fresh hops as we enter the brewery’s main entrance and looking around it’s easy to see the pride that has been invested in this place. Everything looks slick and ready to go, as a place of work and for public viewing. It feels as if you’ve walked in to a pristine factory, with its brick and stainless steel, yet if feels inviting like a well-oiled machine just ready to pump out that good brew for good times!
One of the main brewers here, Chris, is working on a new batch of Sea Dog today – so we are invited for a sneaky peek in the brew house. The brew kettles and mush tuns are visible from Government Street through the brewery’s mammoth road facing windows. They’re noticeably proud of their set-up – they have all the smartest equipment on a local brewery scale. And before we entered we were warned that is gets very hot and steamy in there – and they weren’t wrong; plus the smell of the fermenting hops and yeast hit you like a dense cloud and the noise is crazy – hits all your senses at once!
